A new champagne event "Grand Champagne Helsinki 2015" - Champagne and gourmet food

Champagne is making its way to Helsinki when in May bubbles fill the Old Student House. Grand Champagne Helsinki 2015 brings together champagne friends, hedonists and top names in the industry. The two-day public event features experts sharing their know-how. These include the prestigious Taittinger champagne family branch of Clovis Taittinger, as well as the world's oldest champagne house Ruinart cellar master Frédéric Panaïotis.

The Old Student House provides a relaxed atmosphere where you can taste well-known classics combined with rare delicacies. Champagne suitable food and snacks are available to enhance your experience.

The event can also deepen and expand your knowledge by participation in Master of Wine and internationally renowned champagne expert Essi Avellan’s Master Class tasting, well-known wine and champagne expert Jukka Sinivirta’s Premium tasting or tastings lead by visiting experts presenting unique products from acclaimed champagne houses. These premium expert-led tastings are confined to a limited number of places and hence, should be booked in advance. Detailed information on the lectures can be found on the website under Program. Lehmann Glass’s stunning hand-blown Grand Champagne glasses will be used for all specialist tastings.

The historical Old Student House opened its doors more than 140 years ago and is perhaps the most traditional celebration and events venue in Helsinki. Part of Finnish cultural history, it is located in the heart of the city surrounded by period buildings. The magnificent ballroom and historic music hall creates the perfect backdrop for this spring event.

Entry tickets

A festival ticket costs 17 €.

Avoid the queues at the entrance by purchasing your tickets in advance from Ceesta Shop’s online store at a reduced price of 15 €. Pre-purchased tickets are delivered to the customer by email.

Tasting tickets costing €2 each can be purchased on the spot. Tastings range from one ticket to more than one depending on the price category of the champagne.

Food portions include a plate of 4 delicacies.

Tastings

A unique selection of champagnes and related lectures will be presented by experts who will teach you how to unlock the secrets of this royal drink.

Top local experts specializing in champagne will guide you through the tastings. They include Master of Wine and published author Essi Avellan, wine expert Jukka Sinivirta and our highly acclaimed sommelier Samuil Angelov. In addition, tastings by leading producers will focus on their own products and expertise.

Tastings will last about an hour. Lehmann Glass’s stunning hand-blown Grand Champagne champagne glass will be used for these occasions. See below for more information as the tasting contents are confirmed. A tasting fee is charged and prices can be found in the descriptions of each one. Here too you can book in advance. Places are limited and will be filled in order of registration. Your place will be confirmed once payment is received.


Essi Avellan

Master of Wine

Master of Wine Essi Avellan is an internationally recognized wine writer and champagne expert. Avellan is the author of numerous books on wine including assisting in a completely redesigned third edition of Tom Stevenson's award-winning Christie's World Encyclopedia of Champagne and Sparkling Wine. Avellan has been awarded the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, Dame title of Chevalier.

Jukka Sinivirta

Viinituntija

Jukka Sinivirta is a well-known figure in Finnish wine circles. Writer, lecturer, consultant, television and radio presenter, he has become a trusted wine connoisseur but has also often appeared on food and drink talk shows. He has often been referred to in various interviews as Finland's Mr. Champagne or Champagne Sinivirta.

Samuil Angelov

Sommelier Association president and founder of the restaurant Muru

Finland Sommeliers Association's new President Samuil Angelov is one of Finland's most successful international sommeliers. In the past he has held a position at the celebrated Savoy Restaurant but is now one of the proud owners of Restaurant Muru, Pastis and Kaartin Hodari ja Hummeri.

Chef de Caves, Champagne Ruinart

Frédéric Panaïotis is cellar master of mixing for Ruinart champagne. Since 2007, Panaïotis has honed the house’s champagne quality to an unprecedented level. One indication of this is the selection of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs as the world's best vintage blanc de blanc in the Champagne & Sparkling Wines World Championships last year. That is why vintage Dom Ruinart can be considered the world's best luxury category blanc de blanc.
