A small, charming, and delightfully authentic Champagne producer located in the Marne Valley, specializing in the Pinot Meunier grape variety. Well-known among Champagne enthusiasts for its terroir-driven single-vineyard Champagnes.
Francis Orban’s Champagnes are celebrated for their fruitiness, minerality, and depth, achieved through gentle pressing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and significant use of reserve wines. Orban is a true gem among Champagne houses, elevating the often-underestimated Pinot Meunier to its full potential. The motto: sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking.
The pride of the Orban family is the Pinot Meunier grape, which thrives in the region’s clay-rich soils, producing fruity, generous, and distinctive Champagnes. Francis Orban is that hidden treasure in our selection.
A fourth-generation Champagne grower, Francis Orban works in the village of Leuvrigny in the Marne Valley, about 15 km west of Épernay. His Champagnes are pure expressions of Pinot Meunier, known for their clarity, fruit-forward character, and gastronomic versatility. The Orban family’s winemaking tradition began in 1929 when Léopold Orban established the first press in Leuvrigny. Today, Francis Orban cultivates 7.5 hectares across 29 plots in Leuvrigny and Sainte-Gemme. South- and southeast-facing slopes with a mix of sand, limestone, and clay provide ideal conditions for Pinot Meunier, which accounts for over 90% of the vineyard area.
Francis Orban is committed to sustainable viticulture and environmental respect. The HVE3 certification (High Environmental Value) reflects this dedication to both nature and people. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Non-vintage cuvées include about 50% reserve wines, adding depth and complexity.
Francis Orban’s Champagnes are an excellent choice for Champagne lovers seeking high-quality, terroir-driven, and gastronomically versatile wines.
